In Canada, single-event sports betting is permitted
The British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) will start accepting single-event sports bets, as well as bets on racing and combat, on PlayNow.com via the Safe and Regulated Sports Betting Act.
With the new service, users of PlayNow.com may now make a single wager on both forthcoming boxing events and football games. Such bets may be placed on Saturday's game between the BC Lions and the Ottawa Redblacks, Sunday's fight between Jake Paul and Tyron Woodley, and the NFL season opening for the Seattle Seahawks on September 12.
According to BCLC Interim President and CEO Lynda Cavanaugh, "this is a historic moment for BCLC and our players." "We're thrilled to expand our offerings on PlayNow.com, the only gambling website operating in British Columbia where revenue supports provincial initiatives like healthcare, education, and community programmes by going back to British Columbians."
"As single-event sports betting is introduced to PlayNow.com, BCLC will continue prioritising the health of players," the BCLC stated, noting that PlayNow.com is the sole legal online gambling platform in British Columbia. There are several responsible gambling precautions offered on PlayNow.com, including specialised GameSense Advisors who are available by phone and online chat.
"PlayNow.com is one of the few gaming websites in the world and the only one in North America to provide this service. These experts assist players who practise appropriate play behaviours and, if necessary, can provide referrals to treatment and support agencies.
