New artwork centred on "diversity, equity, and inclusion" is unveiled by MGM Resorts
Rashid Johnson, Sanford Biggers, Derrick Adams, Ghada Amer, Jonathan Lyndon Chase, Tomás Esson, and Svenja Deininger are seven new artists whose works have been purchased by the operator.
These creatives, who practise a variety of artistic mediums like photography, painting, sculpture, and needlework, come from different origins. The organisation hopes to give "an extended platform for artists of colour, women, and the LGBTQIA+ community" by purchasing artwork from these seven people.
Ari Kastrati, chief hospitality officer of MGM Resorts, stated, "We believe in the potential of art to expand minds, shift perceptions, and promote revolution in society.
"MGM's dedication to promoting inclusivity and making sure that the collection more closely reflects our various communities is reflected in the addition of these exceptional artists to our portfolio. The essential principles of our business are centred around that commitment, which permeates all we do.
ARIA Resort & Casino, Park MGM, and the Bellagio are just a few of the MGM Resorts sites in Las Vegas where the purchased pieces will be placed.
Among them are two pieces by Amer from her "The Women I Know Part II" series, a three-dimensional wall piece from Johnson's "Cosmic Slop" series, and Chase's 2019 painting "The Cook Out."
"The acquisition of works by Rashid Johnson, Sanford Biggers, Derrick Adams, Ghada Amer, Jonathan Lyndon Chase, Tomás Esson, and Svenja Deininger propels the MGM Resorts Fine Art Collection significantly forward in our goal of giving voice to underrepresented artists," said Tarissa Tiberti, Executive Director of MGM Resorts Art & Culture.
We are excited to introduce these significant artefacts to our international guests and start a discussion about everything they stand for.
